Hi Lou,
I have a TS-450SAT for one year now, and it has been connected to my computer
since day one. The program I use for it, is Hyperlog, and believe me, it is a
great help. Per se, it does not let you control you rig, but it reads the
frequency and mode directly from it, as you are filling in the callsign, RST
etc. It also interfaces to SAM callbook database and GEOCLOCK, to show you the
daylight areas (for gray-line propagation).
I have also tried several control programs. One that looks quite decent is a
suite comprising of three separate pieces of software : RigView, LogView and
PacView. These are inter-working programs that seem to be useful at working
with the Kenwood (or any other brand, actually). Unfortunately, althought I
bought them, I do not use them, as my log file could not be imported in
LogView, even thought the developer did try to help. If you are willing to
start you logging from scratch, they look quite good.
Finally, I have a copy of another program, I think it is KENTROL (i.e. KENwood
conTROL). This looks also very nice, I can't decide which one's user interface
I like better, KENTROL or RigView. RigView emulates the dials and controls of
your radio. KENTROL uses scroll bars etc for the same purpose. If my RAM has
no parity errors, I think that KENTROL also has a logging part (ain't very
sure, but can check if the need arises).
By the way, both the View suite and KENTROL are Windows applications (another
reason I never use them, hihi).
I would also suggest that you look in last years QSTs for an interface, which
apart from connecting the rig to your computer, allows you also to control the
radio's filter settings, with the push of one button only. I build this
interface about six months ago, and it proved to be extremely useful.
